Hemsworth Hotspur v Ranch Heroes - Match Report - Click Here Hemsworth Hotspur v Dempsey Dyer - Match Report - Click here THE SEASON SO FAR After a disappointing start to the season with only 1 point from a possible 12. The heads of both Players and fans were starting to drop. Something had to change and FAST!!. Manager Steve Wiggins and his silver tongued assistant Rob Rollin managed to tempt former fans favourite Alan Ritchie out of retirement. The injury prone star was delighted to accept Hemsworth Hotspurs offer of a 'No play no pay' contract. 'Big Al' had blown his fortune living it up at expensive nightclubs and Hemsworth's top casino and gamblers paradise Caesars Palace. As a result 'Big Al' Ritchie was just about managing to feed himself by sweeping the streets of Fitzwillam for bread and water. Out came the chequebook again as manager Mr Wiggins made another attempt to cure the clubs goal drought. Assistant manager Rollin said "Here at the club we have always had a quality side, but our problem has always been putting the ball in the net. Hopefully the new lad will cure this problem." Sure enough Hemsworth's new Number 9 'Broadie' scored and was instrumental in his debut against Kinsley Hotel the final result a 2-0 victory. 1 week later and Rollin was quick to snap up Gareth James on a free transfer. After a bad start on his debut James made an impressive performance and scored as well as Broadhirst in a 2-1 victory over Del Monte. The next fixture was 'make or break' for Wiggins' men the fixture against defending champions was going to be tough, really tough. Hemsworth fans feared the worst when Pazza's panthers striker Craig Lazemby netted after a magnificent through ball was expertly put away leaving keeper Rollin no chance. Ten minutes later the equalizer looked like it would never arrive, we missed a hatful of chances when on the stroke of half time Cracknel netted with a fine first time right footed strike beyond the despairing dive of the keeper onto the inside of the post and into the bottom corner of the net. The Hotspur fans went crazy. We started the second half in the same fashion in which the first had ended. Striker Broadhirst was pulling all the strings up front but was largely ineffective due to being man-marked by two men constantly. A tactical change was in order. Broadhirst was substituted with 8 minutes to go. We continued to dominate the match and limited Pazza's Panthers to only a few half chances on the break which Wiggins and Humberstone dealt with calmly and to great effect. With a few minutes left to go Broadhirst was re-introduced to the game. This change had devastating effect when with only seconds to go he latched onto an Humberstone through ball and squared it to Cracknel who drove the ball into the bottom corner 2-1. With only seconds on the clock Rob Rollin made an outstanding save to deny Pazza's Panthers a last gasp equalizer. Final result 2-1. Hemsworth Hotspur v Kinsley R.B.L. Match Report. It seems only yesterday that Hemsworth were losing everything, but what a turn around we have seen in the past four games, with some magnificent signings from manager Steven Wiggins. This was never going to be an easy game with the news veteran centre back Alan Ritchie will miss most of the season, but with the ever impressive Gareth James coming in to fill his boots, Hemsworth knew they were in safe hands. The match started at a frantic pace, with both keepers being tested from both sets of strikers, then suddenly it became clear that this match was going to need something special to spark it into life, up popped Dale Cracknel with his 4th of the season after 12 minutes, he sent R.B.L centre back Mike Hunter one way, then the other before neatly dispatching the ball into the bottom right corner, leaving Rob Jackson in the R.B.L goal with no chance. Three minutes before half time and it looked like there was only one team playing, when suddenly, Lee Jenkins slotted a free kick past the despairing Rollin to level the match (with a little help from Steve Wiggins backside!!). Half time came and went and Hemsworth striker Steven Broadhurst was tiring, so on came Paul Shaw, and with a fantastic run down the left flank, he let go with his right peg and was denied by one of the saves of the night from Mike Hunter. With only 6 minutes remaining, Dale Cracknel capped a fantastic man of the match performance with his 5th goal of the campaign after some neat interplay with Paul Shaw. On the night the score finished Hemsworth Hotspur 2, Kinsley R.B.L 1, with all the Hotspur boys playing classy football.
HEMSWORTH HOTSPUR Vs DEMPSEY DYER Going into this match the management and board of directors would have been delighted for just a victory. They were ecstatic when Lee Womack had driven the ball into the far corner with only a couple of minutes on the clock, the vast army of supporters went crazy!!! There was only one side in the match from the kick off, we got our noses further in front when A few minutes later Womack finished off a magnificent team move started by Jack Humberstone at the back, when he powered home with a left foot shot. However his goal celebrations were cut short When a Dempsey dyer fan threw a bottle at him and knocked some sense in to him. Further domination continued as Cracknel, Shaw and Womack were playing some fantastic passing football, with Humberstone and James holding firm at the back when Dempsey Dyer had the occasional breakthrough. With half time approaching James won the ball at the edge of his box gave it to Cracknel who then squared the ball into the path of the oncoming Paul Shaw who ran with the ball before smashing a right foot drive beyond the despairing dive of the keeper 3-0. So 3-0 at half time and a commanding lead going into the second half. We continued the second half in the way that we had finished the first, we again looked like the only team in it. Gareth James hit the woodwork with a thunderous drive, but the ball was cleared from danger. After another superb display of passing, James latched onto a cross field ball and rifled it home with his left peg!! it was no more than he had deserved. after a short uneventful spell, Cracknel, our very own dancing destroyer who was dazzling the Dempsey defenders all night. Skinned three defenders, before placing the ball onto Womack's Boot who completed his hat-trick in style. In the final kick of the game the ever impressive Humberstone gave the ball to Cracknel who capped a fine individual and team performance off with a deserved goal, thumping the ball low and hard into the net. No time for a late consolation as the referee blew for full time and the Hotspur fans went crazy!!! 6-0 final result and a magnificent performance from everyone.
HEMSWORTH HOTSPUR Vs RANCH HEROES This match was a must win for the Hotspur Boys to guarantee cup qualification. In a confident mood after last weeks performance we set off on a search for goals. As a result of the one way traffic Jack Humberstone recieved the ball skipped passed two defenders and placed the ball confidently into the net. 1-0 The game was turning into a scrappy affair we neither side managing to string many passes together, but we managed to restrict Ranch Heroes to one single chance which Rob Rollin easily dealt with. Broadhirst missed a few good chances to earn a deserved second goal just before half time with one effort going just wide and the keeper saving the other. In the second half we continued to create the best chances but to no avail, at the other end, again Hemsworth's backline of Humberstone and Wiggins definately got the better of the oppositions attack. The game took a turn for the worst when Paul Shaw our inspirational midfielder suffered a horrific knee injury and had to be carried off. After the match the club physio commented "I feel sorry for the lad, he has put in some brilliant performances the year and was going from strength to strength, he got hit at the worst possible time." Although Shaw is expected to hang up his boots, any return would not be scheduled for at least 12 months. Ranch Heroes started to turn the match around and a good spell of possession but the back pairing of Wiggins and Humberstone held firm. A few minutes later and out of nothing Womack belted the ball from the half way line and into the far corner of the net, the fans went crazy. Final whistle 2-0. Not a pretty match but the 2-0 result puts us through to the cup quarter finals. |
